For teeth and health: Floss
You should be using dental floss every day. However, according to a survey by the American Dental Association (ADA), only about 49 percent of the U.S. population reports using this white wound wonder as often as they should. Flossing will help keep your teeth, promoting fresh breath and avoiding possible repercussions of periodontal disease such as increased risk of heart disease or stroke. Yet, people come up with plenty of excuses to skip this simple 2-3 minute task.
Facts:
If you don't floss, you miss cleaning about 30 percent of your teeth's surfaces. Often periodontal disease begins between teeth where your toothbrush can't reach.
Americans purchased more than 2.7 million miles of dental floss in 1996. However, if all Americans were flossing every day, more like 27 million miles of floss should have been used.
Bleeding during flossing is not normal and not okay. Bleeding is a sign of periodontal disease. If your gums bleed for more than a week after you begin flossing, improve your dental hygiene regimen and talk with your dentist or periodontist.

Missing Teeth With Dental Implants
Today patients have an option besides conventional dentures. Whether there is one missing tooth or several, no matter what the cause is, dental implants can be the right choice for you. With dental implants, patients will achieve the comfort and stability that is not available with conventional dentures. Best of all, dental implants is very similar to a natural tooth. Dr. Malek can determine whether or not you are the right candidate for dental implants. Once it is determined that dental implants are right for you, there will be several steps necessary to be accomplished to achieve the success that you deserve and need for a healthy beautiful smile at the office of Dr. Malek, a Dental Implant and Periodontists specialist in Long Beach, California. There are several steps necessary to accomplish the goal of achieving the right dental implant. This procedure is completed over several months, and the reason is the body requires time to heal. In short, there are three major structures that will complete the process. The first is an anchor, the second is the post and the final piece is a dental crown. Since there is no natural tooth root a replacement called anchor will serve as a replacement. The post will connect the anchor to the final piece that will be a dental crown. No matter where a dental implant is necessary, whether it is your upper or lower jaw, an anchor will be necessary. Once the anchor attaches to your jawbone and surrounding gum tissue stabilizes around the post, the next step will be to create a dental crown that will serve as replacement tooth. As always, excellent oral health is required including regular visits to your dentist. Dr. Malek will consult with you and determine the best procedure in your case.
