What is Gingivitis?

Gingivitis is the term given to gums that are inflamed, this is typically the initial stage of gum disease, and however, it can be treated easily, if caught in the early stages. Gingivitis is caused by plaque buildup that begins to form on teeth and along the gum lines. Dr. Malek recommends daily brushing and flossing along with a use of an oral rinse to remove and minimize plaque buildup. If this plaque is not removed, it can lead to gum disease, and if not treated the gingivitis may become periodontitis. If you have red, swollen or tender gums that bleed upon brushing, this could be the early signs of gingivitis.
